Challenges facing green living

Even though GREEN living is the solution to most of the many challenges facing the world today, people are adapting at a very slow rate.

Below are the key challenges facing green living;

1.Getting started-For those who already know the impact of pollution to environmental health and that of living things-man included, are not getting started in addressing the problem in their own small ways.

Until we get started, nothing will happen.

2.Finding balance-after understanding that every individual has a role to play in sustainable living, the next challenge is finding what suits your way of living.

3.Overwhelmed-some people are convinced that the mess in the society is so huge that their small efforts won’t count.

They would rather look for someone or company to blame as they continue to magnify the problem.

We rather litter our streets and blame the county governments or companies responsible for waste management.

4.Availability of green products-earth friendly products are very scarce. Our Super markets and shopping malls are filled with all types of products that we are supposed to be avoiding.

Very few companies are thinking green probably due to costs involved and the risk of losing customers for known products.

5.Accessibility to green products-some people are not aware that green products exist, leave alone knowing where to get them.

Green products should be made accessible to enhance usage.

6.Lack of information-some people have no idea that by regularly consuming certain products, they are multiplying the effects of pollution.

Some do not understand the value of having a healthy environment. They have no idea that our health depends on the health of the environment we live in.

And still others do not know what to do as individuals to stop environmental pollution.

Creating awareness on these key areas will be of great value.

7.Cost of the green products-an average person finds green products to be expensive compared to the non-green ones.

The challenge however is that the effects of continuously using the non-green outweighs the cost of buying green products.

8.Poverty-poverty affects purchasing power.

Empowering the masses financially will help in consumption of green products which for the time being cost a little more than the non-green products.

9.Poor government policies-many governments spend billions on waste management but are slow to implement zero pollution policies.

It’s common knowledge that the leading cause of deaths worldwide right now is food related diseases.

Governments are spending billions to finance treatment of these diseases but they are reluctant to address the root cause!

How to live a green life

To live a green life, the focus shifts to three key words; Recycle,Reduce and Reuse. The three R’s.

1.Reducing pollution-Pollution of any kind is harmful to both to mankind and all the other living things. Read more on environmental pollution here

2.Conserving natural resources-reducing our consumption of essential resources goes along way in conserving resources. Many times we manufacture more than we need and we end up wasting resources.

3.Recycling non-biodegradable products-plastics and other non-biodegradable products pollute our environment and at times block sewerage systems. Continued production of plastic items is uneconomical and unhealthy.

4.Contributing to conservation of forests and wildlife-everyone knows that besides creating rainfall, trees help in purifying the atmosphere. Wild animals are a tourist attraction and most wild plants are medicine.

5.Cultivating more plants and trees in vacant lands-increasing vegetation is a healthy exercise.

6.And helping to maintain the ecological balance on the earth, so that all living beings can survive and thrive in their natural habitat-at any given time, human beings live in harmony with other living things.

Benefits of green living

The point of focus here is where people live and how their living contributes to a harmonious coexistence.

Commercial real estate owners and managers need to embrace environmentally progressive practices in order to remain viable and meet the needs of the community.

Building owners and managers can leverage cost savings and other benefits of going green that produce undeniable return on investment—and position their buildings for the inevitable transition into the new era of green living.

Benefits are categorized into 3;financial, community and environmental benefits.

Financial Benefits:

1.Expense Reductions:Green initiatives ultimately result in reductions to energy, water and maintenance costs.

2.Enhanced Brand Image: All else being equal, green businesses are looked upon more favorably.

3.Green building concepts drive appreciation of building values and increase investor desirability.

4.Higher Occupancy Rates: Tenants are attracted to space that increases employee comfort level while enhancing public image.

5.More Productive Workforce: Green workspace results in happier employees and less absenteeism.

6.Lower Insurance Premiums: Buildings that document their green progress are eligible for insurance premium credits from  insurers.

Community Benefits

1.Reduction in Health Risks: The use of toxin-free building materials and green ventilation systems minimize potential health risks of cancer, asthma and other ailments.

2.Public Safety Improvements: Green buildings undergo a commissioning process that ensures buildings systems are operating optimally which reduces potential for fire and other hazards.

3.Improvements in Thermal and Acoustic enviroments:Thanks to reduced VOCs (volatile organic compounds, emitted by materials used during and after the building process), aesthetic qualities are heightened, and strain on local infrastructure is minimized. In short, quality of life is improved for everyone involved.

4.Strengthening of Infrastructure. High-quality, green infrastructures promote ecological networks and links between habitats—enhancing quality of life and responding to climate change while fostering community well-being.

Environmental Benefits:

1.Improvements in Air and Water Quality.

2.Reduction in Solid Waste.

3.Reduction in Fossil Fuel Use and Dependence.

4.Conservation and Protection of Water and Forest Ecosystems.

5.Promotion of alternative energy sources.

Every creature is better alive than dead, men and moose and pine trees and he who understands it alright will rather preserve it’s life than destroy it.Henry David Thoreau

Green living is a lifestyle that tries in as many ways as it can to bring into balance the conservation and preservation of the Earth’s natural resources, habitats and biodiversity with human culture and communities.

We understand the need to embrace practices which have little or no negative impact on our environment both now and in the future, to reduce waste and consumption, to work with nature in creating sustainable food systems and living arrangements, and to strengthen local communities and relationships.

In a layman’s terms, living green and sustainably means creating a lifestyle that works with nature, instead of against it and does no long term or irreversible damage to any part of the environmental web.

Effects of spiritual slavery

*Spiritual slavery is the inability to do right due to the love of sin.

*Most assuredly I tell you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin and a slave does not abide forever but a son abides forever.

*Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.John,8:35-36.

1.Lawlessness-whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness and sin is lawlessness. 1John,3:4

All unrighteousness is sin.1John,5:17

2.Fear and desperation-those who dwell in sin have no time to love. They live in constant fear of judgement.

There is no fear in love;but perfect love casts out fear ,because fear involves torment.1John,4:18

3.Eternal agony-eternal agony is enhanced by constant fear of torment and judgement due to a sinful life.

Consistent lawlessness reduces the ability to do right and increases fear and desperation.

4.Eternal death-for when you were slaves of sin you were free in regard to righteousness.

What fruit did you have then in the things in which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

For the wages of sin is death. Romans,6:20-23

5.Hatred and all kinds of vices-but if you have envy and self-seeking in your hearts;do not boast and lie against the truth.

This wisdom does not descend from above but is earthly, sensual and demonic.

For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing is there. James,3:14-16

6.Blindness-for judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see and those who see may be made blind. John, 3:39

Jesus said to them,”if you were blind you would have no sin but now you say,”we see”,therefore your sin remains. “John, 9:41.

7.Unsound mind-for God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and love and of a sound mind.2Timothy,1:7.

Just as it’s written:” God has given them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see and ears that they should not hear, to this day. Romans, 11:8-10.

8.Unending conflicts-where do wars and fights come from among you?Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members?

You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and can not obtain. You fight and war yet you do not have because you do not ask.You ask and you do not receive because you ask amiss that you may spend it on your pleasures.

Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?James,4:1-4.

9.Emptiness-abide in Me and I in you.As the branches cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.John,15:4.

All things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made that was made. John,1:3.

Most assuredly I say to you,the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do,for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. John,5:19.

Restoration of spiritual freedom

*Restoration of spiritual freedom aims at creating awareness on available opportunities to enhance fruitful and peaceful coexistence in the society .

*As it’s written, “till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.Ephesians, 4:13.

*The earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God to give it justice. Romans,8:19.

*Our spiritual freedom is the guarantee for restoration of all things!

The following are the ways of enhancing restoration of spiritual freedom;

1.Surrender to God-therefore submit to God.Resist the devil and he will flee from you.James, 4:7.

Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us,an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.Ephesians, 5:1.

The fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever. Psalms, 111:10.

The fear of the lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs,1:7.

The fear of the lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Proverbs, 9:10.

2.Feed your mind on truth-be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving,let your requests be made known to God;

And the peace of God,which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-medidate on these things.Philippians, 4:6-8.

Fulfill my joy by being like-minded,having the same love, being of one accord,of one mind.Philippians, 2:2.

Do not be conformed to this world ,but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God.Romans,12:2.

3.Love your neighbour and love yourself-the commandment of love states that love your neighbour as you love yourself.

If follows that you can’t love your neighbour if you hate yourself.

Until you accept yourself the way you are ,you can’t pursue a better version of you.

You have heard that it was said, you shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy. But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you,do good to those who hate you,and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.Matthew, 5:43-44.

4.Live the truth-but be doers of the word ,and not hearers only deceiving yourself.James, 1:22.

If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.John,13:17

5.Mind your words-therefore putting away lying,”let each one of you speak truth with his neighbour,”for we are members of one another.Ephesians, 4:25.

Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing .My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?

Can a fig tree, my brethren bear olives,or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.James,3:10-12.

6.Mind your thoughts-let no one say when he is tempted,”I am tempted by God”;for God can not be tempted by evil nor does He Himself tempt anyone.

But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.

Then when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;and sin, when it is full-grown,brings forth death.James,1:13-15.

Set your minds on the things above, not on things on earth.Colossians, 3:2.

For to be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.Romans,8:6.

For what am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do,that I do not practice; but what I hate that I do.Romans,7:15.

7.Pursue excellence-and if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others?Do not even the tax collectors do so?Matthew, 5:47.

If your righteousness does not exceed that of scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.Matthew, 5:20.

8.Have unwavering faith-but let him ask in faith, with no doubting for he who doubts is like a wave of sea driven and tossed by the wind.

For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;

He is a double-minded man,unstable in all his ways.James,1:6-8.

For without faith it is impossible to please Him,for he who comes to God must believe that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.Hebrews, 11:6.

9.Worship in spirit and truth-but the hour is coming, and now is,when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth;for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.

God is spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.John,4:23-24.

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the spirit of God dwells in you?

If anyone defiles the temple of God,God will destroy him.For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.1Corinthians, 3:16-17.

10.Live peacefully-if it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.Romans,12:18.

Benefits of spiritual freedom

Belief without unhealthy limitations and restraints has many advantages.

1.Understanding-understanding what you believe and what others believe benefits everyone.

Many conflicts exist because no one wants to understand the other.

For I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to resist or contradict.Luke,21:15.

And we know that the Son of God has come and given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true,in His Son Jesus Christ.1John,5:20.

2.Righteousness-If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.1John,2:29

Whoever abides in Him does not sin.1John,3:6

3.Confidence-And now little children, abide in Him,that when He appears we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.1John,2:28

And by this we know that we are of the truth and shall assure our hearts before Him.

Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us,we have confidence toward God.1John,3:19-21

4.Sound mind-a healthy mind is the greatest gift of spiritual freedom.

It’s the mind of God Himself.

For,”who has known the mind of God that he may instruct Him?”But we have the mind of Christ.1Corinthians,2:16

5.A new heart-I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you.I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. Ezekiel, 36:26

6.Eternal joy-spiritual freedom gives us joy and conviction  even through persecution. It can not be silenced.

7.Eternal peace-Truth is peace to the heart.Spiritual freedom is pursuing an understanding of truth.

And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8.It makes us judges-he who is spiritual judges everything yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.1Corinthians,2:15

9.Establishes us on the path to perfection-I will give you words which all your adversaries will not be able to resist.

If you do more than the minimum requirements, you shall be perfect just as your Father in heaven is perfect. Matthew, 5:48.

10.Spiritual freedom rings truth even in the hearts of our enemies. It often raises sympathizers in unlikely places.

11.It transcends earthly limitations to proclaim the message of spiritual freedom to others.

12.Spiritual freedom prompts fear, denial and defensiveness in the hearts of those enslaved by falsehood.
